Volzhsky is the town in Volgograd region. It’s located on the left bank of Akhtuba River, borders on the regional center. The town ranks the 58th largest among the cities of Russia and is included into the Volgograd agglomeration.
Volzhsky village was founded on a place of Bezrodnoe village in 1951. Volzhsky was granted the status of a town in 1954.
The industry is well developed in the town. Chemical, food and light industry, energy and mechanical engineering, metal work and iron industry are the main branches. There are many enterprises in Volzhsky.
The favourite promenade in the town for people is Lenin Square. This is a central square of Volzhsky built in 1981. Length of the square which is ended near Akhtuba River is several kilometers. The square is decorated by numerous fountains. The Lenin Square is venue of all town festivities.
The highest building in Volzhsky, 22-storeyed Akhtuba hotel, is also located on Lenin Square. It was constructed according to an individual project in 1989. The Akhtuba hotel has rooms of different categories. There is also a restaurant at hotel. Nearby there is the Volga and Akhtuba flood plain.
One more sight located on Lenin Square is an art gallery. Works of painting, graphics, arts and crafts, an icon painting and sculpture are presented here. By the way, the building the gallery placed in is a place of interest by itself as it’s an architecture monument of the 19th century (was constructed in 1881); earlier a school had been located here.
